At the beginning of Pirates of Silicon Valley, Steve Jobs faces the camera and also the director of his 1984 commercial. He explains that Apple is, “here to make a dent in the universe or why else be here? We’re rewriting the history of human thought.”
In your opinion, what dent did Steve Jobs make in the universe? How has his company rewritten the history of human thought? If you had the financial and intellectual means of Mr. Jobs, how might you make a dent in the universe? Do you agree or disagree with the idea that unless you strive for big things in life, goals that make a dent in the universe, you shouldn’t exist? Why or why not?
Steve Jobs and his company did make a dent in
the universe (I agree with the first post).
He and his company, though they didn’t win over
Microsoft, created an explosion of new
technology, and made it available (we wouldn’t
have a mouse otherwise).

he created one of the first real computers, which nobody thought would be possible. i would make a dent in the world by trying to create more computers and finding ways to make things as complicated as that and make them eaiser. i dont agree with him because that is not the only reason you wre put on this earth everyone has a reason to be here.

I disagree that if you don’t make a dent in history you don’t exist because not everyone can make a dent in history and yet they do things that other “normal” people remember.

he started the revolution of personal computors. i agree with that because if you make or do somthing that could impact somthing in the world then you could make a big change or help a study or some other person.

He made a dent, obviously. He created PCs and all those other great gadgets. If I had the mind of Steve Jobs, I’d use it just was he did. Everybody makes a “dent” in the universe around them. They “dent” the people that know and love them, and the people that they work with. You don’t have to have the mind of Steve jobs for that. He just made a slightly more gigantic dent than most people would.

In my opinion i think that the “dent” Steve Jobs made was that he made a whole new thing of technology. And created devices that we use very very often. His company has rewritten the history of human thought by making devices that make people think and want to learn more about technology. I would make a “dent” in the universe by creating new things with technology that people could use throughout history. I do not agree because people who strive for big things and goals should be regonized by what they do and how they want to change the world in a good way.

Mr. Jobs made a dent in the universe because of all of his technolgy that him and his partners invented, we would never really be where we are without their inventions.

The dent that he made is that he invented the personal computer. People thought that the idea of owning a computer was a crazy idea. If i was like steve jobs i wouln’t knkow what to do. I agree with student number 182. However, although the dent Steve Jobs made in the universe was huge, it wasn’t 100% fair. He stole a lot of ideas, like the mouse from Xerox. Also, I completely disagree with Steve Jobs’ thinking that unless you strive for big things in life you shouldn’t exist. That it totally wrong! You don’t have to be a million-aire to be important, and that is pretty much what that idea is saying. I think that anyone, no matter what their career, was put on this Earth for a reason and exist for a reason.

I dont really think Steve Jobs did that much. He just sold the stuff and ran the company. Steve Wasniak did all the work really because hes the one that made the computer. I agree with 182 because I also think that
everyone makes a “dent” in the universe, whether
it is a small “dent” like many of us, or a large
“dent” like Stever Jobs. I think even the smallest
“dent” counts so we all deserve to live, except
for maybe the people that have done terrible
things, but aside that, everyone makes a dent.
It’s just like when people say if you go back in
time and change one little thing, the future will
be changed one way or another so everything that

has the right to do what they want during their

impact, they still could have done some good.

all die in the end. Though, recalling Emily

too. Even without the computer, people were still

Steve Jobs made a dent in the way we have computers. He built the first home computer, he also made the ipod wich has made music history. The Apple company has made many technology history and changed the way the way the world looks at technology. I think I might make a dent is hopefully gain a lot of money after college and then give some away to charities. But you don’t have to. If you have a good family and a job you enjoy, who wouldn’tlove theat life? So, you don’t have to make a dent in the universeto be your goal in life.

Well, first, the quote is misleading. I believe it is suppose to be “We are here to make a dent in the universe or why else be here? We’re rewriting the history of human thought.” The 2 words “We are..” changes the whoole subject of what to agree or disagree on. So honestly, I can’t really answer whether I agree or disagree.
Steve Jobs made his dent in the universe by showing the world a new age of technology. Really, I think if he did not show people this, technology would not have advanced as quickly as it did. If I was in Mr. Jobs’ intellectual means, I would have probably strived for the same things he did, big and difficult obsticals.

Steve Jobs did make a dent in the uiverse – he made a working computer with working functions, and without that, we wouldn’t be typing here right now, jamming to our iPods, chatting on our iPhones, or doing garage band on our apple computers. His company had re-written the history of human thought by making this computer, we now have forms of communication that we didn’t have before..

In my opinion, Steve Jobs made a dent in the
universe by giving the world a different way of thinking, and a different way to communicate, and learn about other people and places in the world. He helped give her the power to do thinigs that wernt possible before. His company has rewritten the way of human thinking by doing so, to give them the ability to do things that beofre were only possible for the experts. I do not at all agree at all that unless you strive to make a dent in the universe, you shouldnt exist, because even if you are not the one to make the dent, the people that do still need you to help them make anything in the first place.
